Steps towards Graduation — A Quick Overview

Below you can find a quick overview containing all necessary steps for the completion of our Master study program.

Necessary Steps for your Graduation

As soon as you have successfully completed your Master's Seminar (MA-SE), you can officially register the subject & the supervision of your Master's Thesis. The registration of your Master's thesis subject & supervision must take place before the submission of your completed thesis the latest.

The completed thesis must first be electronically submitted in PDF format via u:space for a plagiarism check.

Once the plagiarism check has been successfully passed and only after the online submission of your Master's Thesis to the SSC Social Sciences, can the SSC then forward the electronic version of your Master's thesis to your supervisor.

Your supervisor will then have 8 weeks from the time of the successful online submission of your thesis to evaluate and grade your Master's thesis.

As soon as the Master's thesis has been assessed, you will be informed by e-mail by the SSC.

After the successful online submission of your Master's thesis, the submission of two printed copies of your Master's thesis to the SSC either by post or by depositing them in the NIG (portier) should take place within ten working days, so that they can be forwarded to the University libraries by the SSC Social Sciences.

As soon as all your grades have been registered, to confirm that everything is in order with your examination pass, you may conduct a check in u:space under Home > Studies > Record of examinations, where you are going to find a detailed version of your Record of Examinations.

If you notice any traffic light being yellow or red or the total amount of ECTS completed being less than expected, you may refer to our Programm Administrator under commscience@univie.ac.at.

Please note the deadlines for registration for the Master's Examination found in the overview of the examination weeks. As you register for the Master's Examination, you must already have received the confirmation by your second examiner. Please arrange the relevant literature lists with both examiners in due time. You do not have to wait for your Master's Thesis evaluation for your registration for your Master's examination.

The Master's examinations take place in the examination weeks announced in advance. You will be informed of the exact examination date by email approximately 3 weeks before your examination.

The Master's examination must be the last examination in the degree programme. All other examinations must have been completed by the time of the Master's examination.

After successfully completing the Master's examination, you will automatically receive your graduation documents by e-mail from the SSC. Please note that this process can take up to 4 weeks.

Wishing you all the best for your Graduation!
