Study Overview
On the Course Directory found in u:find:
- The Module 1 indicated with yellow colour in the Study Overview above is being mentioned as THERES Introduction to Communication Theory and Research (18 ECTS) including:
- the three introductory lectures and the seminar in Scientific Skills.
- The Module 2 indicated with dark blue colour in the Study Overview above is being mentioned as CORES Introduction to Communication Research Methods (12 ECTS) including:
- two classes that are each a combination of a lecture and an exercise.
Effective Study Plan for your Master's Degree
For an effective study plan, it is recommended to attend the courses belonging to this Master study program as follows, in accordance also to the study overview plan found above.
In the first semester, which takes place during Winter Semester, you would need to attend:
- all the courses belonging to Module 1 (in yellow as seen above), also known as THERES and
- all the courses belonging to Module 2 (in dark blue as seen above), also known as CORES.
The three introductory (theoretical core) lectures of THERES focus on Media & Politics, Strategic Communication, and Journalism & Society, which are some of the main research areas of the Department of Communication. The seminar of THERES covers for Scientific Skills, such as academic writing, presentation, and publication as well as grant writing. The Communication Research method lectures and exercises of Module 2 or CORES focus on Data Collection and Data Analysis.
The second semester marks the beginning of the:
- two research projects (green) belonging to Module 4, which will be carried out over the second and third semester.
- Besides those research seminars, you would also have to attend two Data Analysis Courses (I & II in light blue) from Module 3.
In the third semester, you would have to attend:
- the third Data Analysis course (III in light blue), thus completing the Module 3,
- the two research project seminars (red), belonging to Module 5 as well as
- a master’s thesis concept seminar (red), which should help you with the starting your thesis.
The fourth semester is meant for you:
- to finalise and submit your Master’s Thesis (purple).
- Your Defense (purple) would then be the final step for your Graduation.
